Example of a Scam email

So i received this scam/spam email this morning, in the subject it read “REPLY ASAP” (which is the scammers way of trying to grab you fast):

This is the email:

“FROM THE DESK OF
MR. Frank Bukar
BRANCH MANAGER
INTERNATIONAL COMMERCIAL BANK
KUMASI BRANCH GHANA.

Hello Dear,

My name is Frank Bukar, I am the branch manager of the International Commercial Bank Kumasi branch Ghana. I got your information during my search through the Internet. I am 46years of age and married with 3 lovely kids. It may interest you to hear that I am a Man of peace and I don’t want problem, but I do not know how you will feel about this because you may have double mind. But I am telling you that this is real and you are not going to regret after doing this transaction with me. I only hope that we can assist each other. But if you don’t want this business offer kindly forget it and I will not contact you again.

I have packaged a financial transaction that will benefit both of us, as the regional manager of the International Commercial Bank; it is my duty to send in a financial report to my head office in the capital city (Accra-Ghana) at the end of each year. On the course of the last year 2007 end of last year report, I discovered that my branch in which I am the manager made three million seven hundred and fifty thousand dollar [3, 750.000.00] which my head office is not aware of it and will never be aware of. I have since place this fund on what we call SUSPENSE ACCOUNT without any beneficiary.

As an official of the bank I can not be directly connected to this fund, so this informed me of contacting you for us to work, so that you can assist and receive this fund into your bank account for us to SHARE. Mean While you will have 35% of the total fund, Note there are practically no risk involved, it will be bank to bank transfer, all I need from you is to stand claim as the original depositor of this fund who made the deposit with our branch so that my Head office can order the transfer to your designated bank account.

If you accept this offer to work with me, I will appreciate it very much as soon as I receive your response I will give you details on how we can achieve it successfully. Please contact me with this email address: scammeremail@hotmail.com

Best Regards
Mr. Frank Bukar”

Apparently this email has been sent to many users in early 2008 and up to now (September).

They just never stop, i believe the case must be that they have these emails sent out automatically by bots.

How to Identify Scams on Making Money Online

Nowadays there are a huge number of programs or sites out there which claim to make you rich overnight and pretty quickly. But in actuality there are absolutely no such programs on the Internet which will actually make you rich overnight or fast as claimed by many make money online sites. But still many fall into those traps without even being knowing that they are being hooked into those scams. This is because there is no proper or adequate ways to find whether a program to make money online is a scam or not.

But if you could spend some time on researching those programs, you can easily find whether such programs are scams or not. The most simple and easy way to do it is by doing a Google search of the program that you are going to join or planning to join. Mostly you will get the top 10 results where that particular program might have been discussed and analyzed thoroughly and would have been explained clearly about its genuinity. And you can take a decision on whether to join such programs or not.

Another way to find this out is to visit the related forums spread across the net and search about that program and if not found raise a query about the program in the appropriate place in the forum. You will mostly get a clear cut answer from the fellow members who are always ready to help around. But remember that to look at such forums which have been active and have a decent number of active members like Digital Point, Webmasterworld, Name Pros, etc. But remember to follow the rules there to avoid getting infractions or bans.

Many programs which helps us earn money online or claim to do so ask for money to join, which could be one indication about whether it is genuine or not. Since most of the genuine programs to help us earn money online will not ask for payment upfront to join them. If someone is asking to pay upfront to join them on making money online, it is better that you avoid such programs. But still there are also some genuine sites or programs which ask for money upfront but this rare and again you need to research about it thoroughly if you are planning to join them.

Before venturing into any such programs proper guidance from those who already have enrolled or senior members whom you know is always warranted. Also remember the thumb rule that there is never any easy money or free lunch. You will really need to work hard to make money online just like you do to earn it offline in a legal way. You will need to spend time, actually a lot of it, and also spend some money and lots and lots of hard work to earn money online. Here, note the words hard work, which is the key to get success. If you could follow these simple but effective rules you can actually make some money online easily.

The only best way to find the legitimate programs is to visit forums mentioned in the article and mingle with members and read. Also visit our forum for more tips: http://www.aboutscams.com/forum

Where the Spam comes from

Well, after reading all those viagra pill emails ( I swear, I never ordered any :) ) in my inbox. I decided to write about it today. Almost everyone gets these type of emails they never think they signed up for, why you ask? Well, in most cases you have released your email into some site which may have been unrelated to viagra or other spam you may receive. And poof, they use your email for marketing purposes. In most cases these are harmless efforts from marketers, but be careful, never click a link just because it came to your inbox. Research, research, Google it.

And remember, safe marketing emails never ask you directly for money or anything up front.  And block anything you never ask for, because they will keep sending you the same product or service in different ways to break you.

What to do if you get scammed.

First, save all information you have about the person who scammed you, especially if you had a conversation via instant messaging system such as Yahoo IM or MSN. Save the entire text.

Secondly, search google.com for the scammer’s username (if the person is from a forum or website, or use their email address) or any other little piece of information about the scammer. Chances are they have a little “infamous club” on the net where other victims are sharing their displeasure.

Thirdly, report it. Either do this by contacting your lawyer or going directly to web and report the person with the information you have to sites such as Internet Crime Complain Center.

Scammers love forums

A great amount of forums I visit, especially those that are business orientated, are what we would call a scammer’s dream. These forums allow users to sell, trade and buy virtually which means you don’t get to see the person you do business with 90% of the time.

Scammers love forums because they give them the chance to remain almost anonymous, almost because sometimes these people can be traced. users go into believing the person they are dealing with is legitimate, and believe that if something goes wrong their payment processors or the company of dealing will put out all the stops to catch the scammers, unfortunately, this is not the case most times.

Before you sign up for a community forum where you hope to conduct business, do a quick search for keywords like scam, fraud, Phishing, and especially scammer. This shows you the types of scams which happen currently at that said forum.  Forums aren’t the only place scammers attack, but you should not let down your guard just because there are many good people in the forum.

Why do people scam?

Why do people scam? I’m sure everyone who isn’t a scammer asks this question. Then we try to answer it:

Are scammers poor and desperate?

Are scammers lazy?

Or do they just enjoy doing something illegal and wicked to get a kick out of it?

Whatever the answers are to these question, one thing is for sure; there is no excuse to become a scammer.

That’s why I will be exposing scams and discussing experiences that friends and aquaintances have had with scammers. I also hope to hear from you here, enjoy and be safe.
