Money
Scams
Money transfer scams
are one of the most common type of money scams. In this type of scam,
scammers
try to trick victims with fake email letters detailing the
help
required by victim to transfer money supposedly
because
it would cost too much to do it by other means, which is a lie. Here is
an example of the type of emails victims receive:
Example Goodmorning Dear Sir/Madam, I am
[so and so], CEO of company [so and
so] which is located in [so and
so]. We do services in [so and
so] for
[so and so] people across the world. We are currently seeking a
representative to assist us in receiving payment from our customers
across Europe, America, Canada and other places worldwide.
This
is
completely legal, and you are not required to have any capital. Your
tasks will be simple: Firstly:
you collect payment on our behalf from the clients, these payments come
in the form of all types of checks. Secondly:
you then deposit or cash payment at your bank. Thirdly:
you take out your comission of 15% of each received payment for your
services as our Rep, you will then send the rest of the money via
Western Union to where we instruct. Isn't
that a great deal!? A whole
15% to you, if you are interested in our offer, please send us your
details, this includes full name, your address, city, state and zip
code, phone number, your age and sex, also your current occupation. We
hope you do not pass up this once in a lifetime opportunity. Thanks for
your time, CEO of company [so and
so].
*This is just a short version of what these emails will look like, in
fact, they are usually long and inviting, almost like a story you can't
help but finish read. Of course there are many different types of money
scams, but most use this basic strategy: to trick you into thinking you
can get something from nothing.
